The Glasshouse is a glazed garden structure, providing a sheltered studio space within a landscaped garden setting.
Perched on the fringes of mature woodland and a more ordered contemporary structured garden, the space takes on a role partway between landscape folly and secluded retreat.
The fully glazed envelope intends to see the user completely immersed in the flora and fauna of the surrounding site, at once presenting itself as a liminal space between the inside and outside. Solar control glazing shall be utilised throughout to minimise solar gains, preventing overheating. A sculptural steel plate structure spans the room, supporting the glazed walls and roof above, mimicking the delicate yet robust nature of tree branches.
The space is presented as a single volume with integrated bench seating beneath a central oculus, conjoined with an inglenook hearth and concealed WC / Kitchenette within a cedar clad pod at the rear.
