A small infill development located on an underutilised scrubland corner plot in South-Gloucestershire. Sandwiched between a cluster of post-war bungalows and traditional stone faced cottages, both of which locally listed, the scheme design sought to introduce a pair of well appointed three bedroom family homes.
The simple forms and restrained material palette were chosen to reflect the mixed materiality and built composition expressed in the surrounding local vernacular. Aspects of design, form and materiality were closely evaluated alongside input from the local planning and conservation departments following a lengthy consultation period.
The twin street facing elevation picks out detailing through varied brick bonds and storey courses within the facade, incorporating generously proportioned glazed openings offset with cedar cladding boards. Natural stone cladding and distinctive stone lined doorway recesses articulate the primary point of entrance into the dwellings.
The project has successfully gained planning consent and is now being developed further at detailed design level in readiness to commence works on site in the near future.
